Abstract: The simple desire of some citizens to sunbathe on the Danube islands will end up generating intense diplomatic correspondence between the communist authorities in Sofia and Bucharest. In the absence of the political will to adjust the Danube border to the changes in the riverbed, representatives of the two countries will have to deal with a series of border incidents. Despite this, both sides want the riparian population to be able to use the islands on the Danube, but only under diplomatically agreed conditions.
