Abstract: This paper explores the potential of 3D architectural modelling and digital visualization as contemporary tools for historical reconstruction of lost cultural heritage. By using authentic and systematically organized archival materials, the study recreates lost elements of Sofia’s urban and architectural past. The focus is placed on the digital reconstruction of the “Balkan” insurance company building from the now-vanished Targovska Street – once a major commercial and social artery of the city. Through 3D modelling, characteristic architectural details have been reconstructed and presented within an interactive virtual environment, allowing new forms of engagement with cultural heritage. The project demonstrates how digital technologies can support the preservation of historical memory, enhance interdisciplinary research in urban history, and create innovative opportunities for education, cultural dissemination, and heritage interpretation.
