Abstract: This study analyzes Halford Mackinder’s references to Greece, systematically categorizing and examining his insights. Greece has historically been approached with caution by Western/Naval Powers due to its critical geographical position between East and West and its complex historical allegiances. This cautious approach reflects concerns about Greece’s cultural ties to Land Powers and the potential risks, posed by these, to Western interests. The study identifies recurring patterns in Mackinder’s work that continue to influence contemporary strategic decisions made by both Naval and Land Powers, underscoring the enduring relevance of his geopolitical theories. Mackinder’s analysis remains a critical lens for understanding modern geopolitical dynamics, especially in relation to Greece. However, new emerging threats are challenging the stability of the Western strategic framework, which has long relied on Mackinder’s cautionary approach. These challenges may necessitate a reassessment of strategies as global power dynamics shift, and new actors rise.
